Each SHSM is specifically tailored to meet the students needs in the pathway they wish to take to their destination after Huntsville High. These programs help the student meet their goals whilst enriching the learning experience relevant to the chosen sector.
The SHSM is a win win for students, employers and educators. While the student is enrolled in their chosen courses selected within the sector of SHSM they will become certified in industry standard training courses, participate in reach ahead opportunities, complete CLA (Contextualized Learning Activity) in their major credits to gear the learning in all classes towards the students SHSM Red Seal.
Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs give students in grade 11 and 12 the opportunity to take a concentration of courses in a subject area that may not be available at their home school. These programs feature a combination of in-class and practical experience, with the benefit of specialized facilities, equipment and teacher expertise. Students enrolled in SHSM programs will attend the host school for one semester and then return to their home school to complete diploma requirements. Successful students receive a Red Seal on their OSSD.
